Phase II – Week 18

It’s hard to believe we’re already on week 18 of the renovation on our historic chapter house. Up on third floor, drywall finishing has begun with the first coat of joint compound:
The electricians have also started pulling wire into the conduit installed during the rough-in phase:
In the bathrooms, the shower curbs are being formed up, which should be the last major obstacle before tile can begin:
On second floor, the pocket for the new Won-Door has been framed up. This special fire door will allow us to keep the second floor landing open but still seal the staircase off in case of fire:
In the pledge wing, drywall installation is progressing:
Another nice change is the east stairwell, where we were able to remove an unnecessary fire door and partition, opening a previously cramped stairwell up:
In the basement, new concrete steps have been poured to connect the rear staircase with the new hallway, and the floor of the bathroom has been poured:
Outside, the forms are in place to begin pouring the new retaining wall around the basketball court:
Is there a time when we can visit the house and see the work in progress?
We don’t have any current plans for tours during construction, but we will be having a rededication celebration to see the completed house on November 1-2. There also may be some tours during the summer for recruitment events – they haven’t been scheduled yet, but you can check the chapter’s rush calendar at http://beta.unl.edu/recruitment/events.jsp.
